Leap Forward for New Jersey Online Gambling

The legalization bill takes New Jersey a step ahead of rival states and will now be voted on by the full Assembly.

Legalized online gambling in New Jersey is one step closer after the New Jersey House Regulatory Oversight and Gaming Committee passed Senator Ray Lesniak's bill by three votes to one.

The Senate and the House must now vote on the bill, but this may not happen until autumn, according to unnamed sources.

The House committee passed the bill with one amendment, which stated that licensed New Jersey online operators could accept out-of-state bets if it did not break federal law.

The one dissenting vote came from Senator Ralph Caputo, former Atlantic City casino executive. He said that expanding online gambling only in Atlantic City casinos would put other casinos at a disadvantage.

Robert Griffen, Trump Entertainment Resorts CEO and Casino Association of New Jersey President, spoke in favour of the bill, saying that the state is missing out on potential revenues. He also said legalization will protect online gamblers.
